Sadly, Jeff Miles, long time resident of Devauden, passed away during the first week of August. His funeral will be held on 13th September.

Jeff had lived in Devauden since a early age and was a familiar face to everyone in the village. He played an active role in village life and will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew him.

Jeff worked in the banking sector and was a branch manager for Abbey National Building Society in Cwmbran before retiring about twenty years ago.

As a young man Jeff was an accomplished footballer and player for several well-known clubs as a goalkeeper. He spent several seasons with Newport County in the late sixties before moving to Gloucester City until the end of the 1974/75 season. He then joined Cheltenham town where he was awarded player of the season in 1976. He also played for Chepstow Town and Hereford United.

Jeff's funeral service took place at St Martin's Church, Penyclawdd on Friday 13th September at 12 noon followed by interment in the churchyard and a reception at The Fountain Inn, Trellech Grange
